I left my former employer a year ago and set up with a partner in my own business, purchasing £150M of property. It’s been a busy time! When I made the move, I had three separate pensions, none of which were performing particularly well.

I spoke to Andrew and he showed me how other clients’ pensions were performing in comparison. They were all doing significantly better than mine, so I asked Andrew to transfer my pensions over too.

I’ve known Andrew for 30-something years. Initially, Andrew helped me out with mortgages but over time, our relationship has developed and evolved into other areas of financial planning.

Around 10 years ago, I was 20 years into a company pension scheme. It was a Defined Benefit scheme. The company was closing the scheme and moving us all into a Defined Contribution (DC) scheme instead. Andrew and I explored the options available to me and when I was fully informed, I opted not to transfer into the DC scheme.

Andrew then helped me to set up my own DC pension which the company then paid into. When I left that company, I asked Andrew to look at cashing in my pension and reinvesting it. I knew that went against every piece of advice you usually hear, but Andrew also knew that I was well-informed on what might be about to happen to my company and the risk I was facing by staying in the scheme. So, he helped me to move the entire pension and reinvested it for me.

He’s continued to manage that scheme for me ever since and despite everything that’s going on, my pension has held its own and is doing better than I expected it to.

He understands what makes me tick and what I will and won’t do. And he makes everything very, very easy. He won’t just say, “I need this bit of paperwork from you,” he’ll appear in front of me with everything there ready for me to read and sign. He makes it as simple as he possibly can and I really appreciate that.

I originally went to Andrew for help with mortgages, which he helped us with a lot. From there, we moved on to work around investments for my private finances.

I’ll speak to Andrew usually once a month. He’ll give me an update on how things are progressing and will advise me on the next move and what we should be investing in. I feel quite confident in saying, here’s “x” amount of money, find the market where it’s best to invest and I can trust him to do that.

We have a good relationship, and it works very well. I know I can pick up the phone, we’ll have a conversation there and then and we sort the matter within 24 hours. I have full trust in Andrew: he really knows the markets. He’s very knowledgeable, very approachable and extremely professional. And you know you’ll always get an answer to your questions.

As time moves on, we’re looking at retirement. I’m pleased to say that’s all looking very rosy due to him, and we have a plan worked out for me to retire in around ten years. It’s reassuring to know that’s there.
